MY TEACHING METHOD:
I believe the first step in helping a student is to have them identify what their music goals are. Once those are established, the teacher’s job is to guide students toward meeting those goals while also helping them navigate the obstacles that they are likely to encounter. Every student needs to start out learning the basics, like chord structure, major and minor scales, and rhythm. I don’t believe in a one size fits all approach and think each student should have an individual plan to help them through the learning process. I do strongly believe that part of that plan should include group classes! Group classes help the student learn how to play with others and help them to learn common jam etiquette. It also allows the students to communicate and share their own perspectives of the material they are learning.
